Got a great idea? Sam Conte of the Fort Wayne Inventors Club  talks about “HOW TO INVENT” – the cause to invent, justifying an invention by determining markets, sourcing of materials, and costing it to sell. Sam will also address “TO PATENT OR NOT TO PATENT?” – how to determine if it will be required, justifying costs of applying for a patent, who will buy it?

TekVenture is Out of Space and We Need Your Help

The Downtown Allen County Public Library is a generous and gracious landlord, however, it's time for TekVenture to grow.

Please take a few moments to complete the TekVenture Maker Survey that will help in our space planning.  The results will help us to determine what machines you could use while building your projects and will help us to figure out how much space we need now and into the future.

In the meantime, thank you so much for supporting TekVenture and our many projects and programs.

FAB FALL WORKSHOPS START SATURDAY 17 NOV WITH ARDUINO WORKSHOP

If you missed the more than 60 recent "Making Our Summer" workshops at the TekVenture Maker Station you'll not want to miss FAB FALL @ TekVenture Maker Station at the Downtown Allen County Public Library!

Opening with "Getting Started With Arduinos" workshop on Saturday 17 November at 9:00 am, FAB FALL features over 20 workshops, demonstrations, talks and "MeetUps" designed to match local experts with people interested in making things.  All but two workshops are sponsored by the Allen County Public Library and are offered free of charge to the public, according to Mari Hardacre of the Library's Young Adults Department.  Workshops are for everyone 12 years old through adults.

Workshop and demonstration topics include three, 3D Printing demonstrations and workshops, "Getting Started with Hobby Electronics", "SketchUp® to G Code" computer-aided design workshop, "Making Mechanisms for Micro-controllers", "Touching the World of the Mobius Band" with local sculptor, Curtis Rose, and "Jewelry Making: Connections and Closures". Help assemble an "OstrichBot", a small, fun, computer-controlled machine that can draw or write on a curved surface like an ostrich egg!  Learn to solder while making a tiny electric Christmas Tree.  Make a small holiday gift glass ornament or other objet d'art in the Hands-on Glass Working with Eran Park workshops held at his studio on South Wayne Ave on Friday 23 November for which a modest fee will be charged. Prepare yourself for the upcoming holiday season by attending "The Geeks Guide to Techie Gifts" on Wednesday 5 December at 7 pm in the Globe room of the Downtown Library.

The complete list of workshops may be found at the TekVenture website: www.tekventure.org/workshops.  Because space inside the TekVenture Maker Station is tight, workshops will be limited to six persons with one or more instructors. Reservations for all workshops must be made in advance by calling the Maker Station phone 421.1374.

Most workshops will take place inside the TekVenture Maker Station, a 50 ft., handicapped-accessible, heated trailer parked at the west end of the South Library parking lot accessible from Webster Street between Washington and Jefferson Blvds.  The Maker Station features a number of hand, power and computer-controlled tools.

Jeff Krull, Director of the Allen County Public Library, said the Library and TekVenture continue to be on the cutting edge of a growing national movement exploring how Libraries can provide facilities, programs and opportunities for their patrons to experiment with tools, new media and fabricating technologies they might not otherwise be able to afford. TekVenture, which also brings the Sixth Annual Chain Reaction Challenge to the Grand Hall of the Library on 20th April 2013, is working to establish a “Public Art and Technology Laboratory” in downtown Fort Wayne serving NE Indiana and modeled after successful maker spaces in larger cities.
