TEKVENTURE MAKER STATION OPEN HOUSE ANNOUNCED

TekVenture in partnership with the Allen County Public Library (ACPL) will open the Maker Station at no cost to the public on Saturday, May 26, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Join us in the 50' trailer located in the Downtown ACPL parking lot at Webster and Washington Streets. The Maker Station houses a variety of tools and is a place where aspiring makers may access prototyping tools while learning about the design to fabrication cycle. This is TekVenture first towards creating a public intersection between imagination, technology, art, and community - a place where tinkerers, makers, engineers, artisans, inventors, craftspeople, and others can gather to use tools, share, and make things.

If you are an artisan, tinkerer, like to take things apart to see how they work, or just like making things and want to share them with the public, exhibit as a Maker at the Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire - Powered by TekVenture. The 2012 FWR Maker Faire Call for Makers is now open. Join in the fun Oct. 6 & 7 and share your cool ideas for free. REGISTER NOW FOR ARDUINO HANDS-ON WORKSHOP

TekVenture is offering 2 Arduino Hands-On Workshops Saturday, April 14, 2012.

Section 1: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Section 2: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Attendees will dive into actually getting the Arduino up and running and performing a few simple tasks. Attendees will also begin to look at the programming language used on the Arduino.

Workshop Cost: $25 per person*

Location: TekVenture Maker Station, parking lot just south of Downtown ACPL at Ewing and Washington

* Attendees are required to bring their own laptop, Arduino board, and a standard USB cable.

NE INDIANA MACHINISTS GROUP INVITE TEKVENTURE TO TRACTOR SHOW

The Spring Tractor and Engine Show hosted by Maumee Valley Antique Steam and Gas Association was held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum March 30 - April 1.

TekVenture featured active 3D printing and a Chain Reaction Challenge machine as members of the NE Indiana Machinists Group demonstrated working hand-built scale model engines.

PURDUE RUBE GOLDBERG TEAM TO JOIN CHAIN REACTION CHALLENGE 5

Already a Guinness Record Holder for World’s Largest Functioning Rube Goldberg® Machine and runner-up winners of the 30^th annual Purdue National Rube Goldberg Machine Contest, the Purdue Society of Professional Engineers and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers will display their 2012 Rube Goldberg Competition Entry. This entry has over 300 steps and completes nearly every task in the competition’s history exceeding the former record by approximately 60 steps.

There are a few spaces available for the TekVenture Chain Reaction Challenge 5. If interested in building a machine and joining the fun, call the TekVenture Maker Station at 421-1374.

ACPL HOSTS 5TH ANNUAL CHAIN REACTION CHALLENGE WORKSHOP

22 people attended the free 2-hour Chain Reaction Challenge Workshop held at the Downtown Allen County Public Library.

The Chain Reaction Design Team taught attendees tips and techniques for building their one-of-a-kind machines built around the 2012 theme of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

On March 17 & 18, TekVenture again took part in the FAME Arts Festival held at the Grand Wayne Center. Several volunteers demonstrated 2 entries from the TekVenture Chain Reaction Challenge and shared information about the TekVenture Maker Station.

The Graduate Retention Program of the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce is holding the 2nd-Annual TechFest and TekVenture will be there.

Saturday March, 10 the community is welcome to join us at the Lantern on Ardmore, 9-4 pm as teens from all over NE Indiana participate in games in which winners win internships and a path toward a better future. Awards ceremony begins at 4 pm.

In partnership with the Allen County Public Library, Teens in grades 6-12 learned about "Rapid Prototyping" at a hands-on demonstration at TekVenture's Maker Station. Participants learned about process of turning an idea created in computer space into a real thing in this 2-part workshop offered free to library patrons.After touring the TekVenture Maker Station and learning about equipment used in the design to fabrication cycle, participants saw the simple object they designed produced into the real thing.

FREE CHAIN REACTION CHALLENGE WORKSHOP COMING SOON

Have you always wanted to build a Rube Goldberg-type contraction? Now's your chance. Come to the Downtown ACPL March 24, 2-4 pm as the TekVenture Design Team will share tips and techniques for building a better machine. The 5th Annual Chain Reaction Challenge is Saturday, April 24 at the Downtown ACPL. We'll pull the string on the first machine at 2:00 pm so get there early so you can see all the work that goes into these one-of-a-kind links in our community chain reaction.
